C4K Receives Top Award from the El Pomar Foundation
Computers For Kids has received the El Pomar Foundation's top honor, the Spencer and Julie Penrose Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Organization of the Year. Along with the honor came an unexpected gift: $50,000, double the size of the award given to previous winners. According to William Hybl, the foundation chairman, said the award was doubled because "The trustees wanted to make a statement about how much they value the work being done by the individual Penrose Award winner and, in general, how important they believe it is to have organizations throughout Colorado striving to be standard-bearers for excellence. By doubling the award from $25,000 to $50,000, we hope to provide even more incentive to all Colorado non profits to reach that elite level."
"It was an amazing evening and totally unexpected! Presenting the award to our student staff upon returning to Glenwood Springs was a highlight of the entire experience. It's really a team award!" - Kirsten McDaniel
The Awards of Excellence program was established in 1989 by the El Pomar Foundation to honor the outstanding achievements of Colorado's non profit organizations. A statewide selection commission of distinguished Coloradoans, appointed by the Trustees of El Pomar Foundation, selects non profit organizations that do exemplary work.
